Notes on the images contained in this site
Unless otherwise stated below, all images contained
this site were created with the use of a Linux box, probably mine
although not neccessarily. I have made use of the
GIMP,
ImageMagick,
XPaint, editing
XPM's directly
with vile, and a
few others.
All new work is done almost exclusively inside the GIMP.
Non-Linux made images
Life is not perfect, and not everyone uses Linux on their desktop
computer, or even at work. This coupled with that fact that Linux lacks
image manipulations software as complete and robust as many other
operating systems, means that very few images in the public domain
have been created solely with the use of Linux boxes as compared to
other operating systems. So, without further ado, these are the
non-Linux made images in this site:
- anyns.gif
- This image was taken from the Any Browser Now home page
somewhere. I have no idea who the author is or what kind of
computer it was created on. It is most likely a modification of
the netscape now graphic, not a from scratch effort.
However, almost the entire picture has been touched up and redone
(colors, new text, etc.) inside the GIMP, xpaint, and vile. Which
is why it weighs in as a nice ~900 bytes.
- my_sole.jpg
- This is a very interesting graphic. It is my effort of about an
hour behind Photoshop on a mac. I started with just a few squiggily
lines and used about 20 filters. I hope you like it.
- linbut.gif
- The original graphic, the penguin, was make with the GIMP on
a linux box. The modification to it's present state here may have
been made under another operating system.
- biell.jpg and biell_TeXbook.jpg
- These were taken from a digital camera, then downloaded and croped
on a Macintosh.
- There may be one or two others.
- I apologize if I left any images out. I am trying to stick to
the GIMP for all future images.
What the heck are you doing?
The point of HTML is to transfer information in a platform independent
way. That is what the purpose to this site is, information, so forget
about the pictures and just start reading.
